  • Overview

    We are currently looking to recruit a dynamic, data-driven journals Marketing Manager to join the Strategic Marketing team.

    Reporting into the Head of Strategic Marketing for Journals, the successful candidate will take responsibility for managing a list of journals. The role holder will set strategic marketing objectives for the portfolio, and will be responsible for ensuring that strategic vision and objectives for the journals are represented into other marketing teams. These Consumer, Institutional and Corporate marketing teams then develop tactical plans, implement them and measure success against KPIs.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement objectives-driven global marketing strategies to improve positioning and product impact
    • Ultimately own the consolidated marketing plans for the portfolio (ie the activities being undertaken for the journals in their portfolio) and the reporting back to key stakeholders in the publishing teams and outside BMJ where needed
    • Collaborate with the publishing and editorial teams on product positioning
    • Use data to inform strategy and to report back on effectiveness of programmes
    • Monitor competitor activity to feed into overall portfolio intelligence
    • Develop a strong understanding of market pricing and competitor pricing strategies
    • Where required, ensure that marketing insights and needs are clearly represented at the product creation and development planning stage and other key interactions with internal and external stakeholders

     

    Communication:

    • Work closely with the consumer and institutional teams, along with other members of the marketing group, so that the objectives for the portfolio are met through appropriate customer segmentation, targeting and engagement.
    • Collaborate with the publishing and editorial teams on product positioning and on reporting the outcomes of their marketing plans to stakeholders
    • Attend editorial board meetings to showcase completed marketing activity

     

    Competitive Landscape Understanding:

    • Develop thorough understanding of key competitor activity within the journals and Global and Public healthcare space and draw actionable insights from this understanding

    Budget Management and Reporting:

    • Oversee spend of the Marketing budget and report on results on an ongoing basis
    • Measure and report product performance against the portfolio and plan objectives

    Support Pricing Decisions through Market knowledge:

    • Develop a strong understanding of market pricing and competitor pricing strategies

     

    Qualifications

    The role holder must be educated to degree level and have relevant marketing experience. The candidate should have the ability to juggle multiple priorities and to keep sight of key objectives.  International marketing experience is essential. Evidence of strong digital and social marketing skills required. A deep understanding of the medical research and Open Science landscapes is highly desirable. The role holder must have strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to ensure the success of their exciting and expanding Journals portfolio.
