BMJ is recruiting a Senior Technical Leader (Chief Technology Officer) to join the Company Executive and play a crucial part in stewarding a global values-based company with a vision to make the world a healthier place.
Reporting to the CEO, the CTO will ensure that the company’s digital and agile transformation continues as well as developing and delivering solutions to meet current and future market needs.
As a member of the Company Executive, you will be supporting the company values and mission as well as contributing to decisions across all aspects of running a medium-size (430 person) company.
As CTO, you will be the voice of the possible and the respresentative of all aspects of technology and how it can support BMJ to remain competitive and be a best in class digital organisation.
You will lead an in-house team of over 50 people across development, QA, design, project management, data transformation and business analysis and be responsible for build or buy decisions across the entire external and internal product stack.

You will be an experienced technology leader with a track record of delivering online digital products. You will be used to finding solutions to problems, both technology and business, as well as developing and executing a strategy to support the company’s goals.
As CTO, you will be used to building and maintaining credibility with technical staff through your own knowledge and experience. Likewise, your business knowledge and people skills will have allowed you to build trust with peers and colleagues across all business areas.
You will be used to regular exposure at board level and be comfortable with, or willing to learn about, academic publishing.
