    The Partnerships and Programmes Manager role, will be part of the BMJ Global Health/Global Health Security team, which manages the implementation and sustainability of a high profile, high priority healthcare training and clinical decision support programme spanning multiple countries.


    The role will have responsibility for managing a single, key relationship and ensuring effective contract management and reporting, ensuring delivery of all programme deliverables. A key focus of role will be to work across a number of countries as part of our pre-engagement efforts for implementation of the programme  ensure that we continue to meet our vision for a healthier world, and extend the reach of the BMJ brand as a valued and trusted partner. It requires a high level of political astuteness and diplomacy.


    Programme and relationship management:

    • Manage a single high profile, high risk, contract and relationship which spans multiple countries, and ensure outstanding levels of client satisfaction; includes conducting regular performance reviews with the client
    • To proactively identify, cultivate and manage key strategic partnerships and influence key decision makers and healthcare leaders across a range of low and middle income countries  in collaboration with the Outreach and Engagement Manager and Marketing and Communications Manager
    • Deputising for the Head of Strategic Partnerships with interactions with funders, partners, governmental/ministerial stakeholders and others clinicians  
    • To manage, support and advise the Regional Development Managers
    • Through management of the Regional Development Managers, ensure high quality delivery according to contractual agreements, on time and budget; measure and report on KPIs of activities as appropriate; ensure effective project management and delivery of implementation and sustainability plans.
    • To develop and deliver training workshops and presentations in collaboration with the Outreach and Engagement Manager and Marketing and Communications Manager, as part of country pre-engagement efforts


    Public affairs:

    • Monitor and advise on geopolitical environments, public affairs and health policy developments across the country portfolio
    • Monitor and advise internal teams on the challenges faced by health systems and funders; maintain knowledge on the state of the healthcare market in CBEP countries, their needs and likely challenges
    • Support, advise and liaise with Strategy and engagement teams as required to ensure programme is effectively driving impact/usage; provide domain knowledge, market, customer and user insight gained from in-country interactions and visits
    • Lead the development of pre-engagement / warm-up and outreach strategies and plans, including contributing to the creation and approval of communications, engagement and outreach activities, deliverables and collateral


    Team management:

    • Manage the Regional Development Managers, who are responsible for programme delivery within countries and across regions; sets objectives, conducts appraisals, manages workflow and workload of team, and all aspects of individual and team performance.




    • Degree education with advanced experience of business development, contract and relationship management, particularly at governmental/ministerial levels or with global health funders and NGOs
    • Experience working within political or diplomatic environments
    • Experience of working within a global health and/or global health security related environment, particularly in securing global health funding / resource mobilisation
    • Engagement and influencing with senior decision makers and influencers
    • Excellent working knowledge of international healthcare markets
    • Proven track record of profitable business development and delivery of successful tenders and proposals
    • Experience of managing multi-stakeholder projects, working with partners and third parties
    • Experience of contract negotiation
    • Experience of working with cross-functional, matrixed teams  
    • Experience of managing teams, including remotely

    • Track record for problem solving and taking initiative

    This is a London based role in BMA House, but you may be required to travel internationally. The position is a fixed term contract until June 2019 with the possibility of being extended further.
